 Google

Back before there was Google, the big new search engine out there was AltaVista. In an effort to show off its power, the AltaVista team from Digital decided to crawl and index the entire web, which was a new concept at the time. There were many who didn’t like the idea of a “robot” program accessing every page on their web sites because it would cause more load time to their web servers and increase bandwidth costs for them. To address their growing concerns, in 1996 the Robots Exclusion Standard was created.

natural treatment for congestive heart failure

If you are using WiFi (802.11a,b.g) public hotspots then you are sending and receiving all of your traffic in “the clear”. It is penetrating walls, it is zooming across the street, and it is all readable plain text. Many hotels have sniffable wired networks. IT Infrastructure Increasingly Supports Physical Security Initiatives

November 12th, 2007 by Adam Maywald, Editor · No Comments

If life in the data center was a musical, the first two songs security and IT folks would break out in song and dance to would be “Let’s Get Physical” and “We’re All in this Together.”

If the show was based on a recent story in The Register, it would be a somber production. The piece details the repeated break-ins to C I Host, a co-location facility in Chicago. The scary part - aside from the fact that the thieves appear to have been a pretty violent bunch who struck and repeatedly tazered the night manager - is that this was the fourth time in two years that facility was broken into and the company seems to have not been upfront with its customers. In a broader sense, the benefit IT managers and their bosses can gain from other companies’ misfortunes is that physical security efforts must be redoubled.
