Virtual Assistant UK Reveals How The EU Protects Shoppers - Part 1-

December 12th, 2009 by Security Guru · No Comments

Promoting customers’ rights, prosperity and wellbeing are core values of the EU, and this is often reflected in its laws. Membership of the European Union ensures additional protection for consumers.

Here Catalyst Entrepreneur describes 10 basic principles of how European Union law protects each client, no matter where they live in the European Union.

Catalyst Entrepreneur Internet Marketing Virtual Assistant explains the minimum level of protection all European Union states ought to, in step with EU regulation, provide consumers. The small print of specifically what their rights are – and how they’ll apply them – will vary from country to state depending on how they have implemented the EU rules in their national regulation.
Note for the readers: National consumer protection laws might – in some cases – give you a higher level of protection.

1. Get what you wish, where you want.

Fancy a shopping trip to a city in another European Union state? European Union regulation entitles you to “shop till you drop” without having to stress regarding paying customs duty or extra VAT when you return home. This applies whether you physically move to the other state to shop or whether you order merchandise over the Internet, by post or telephone.

Normally, the authorities in your country cannot stop you importing a product which you have lawfully purchased in another European Union state. But, a few exceptions apply to product like fire-arms or morally offensive items.

2. If you don’t like it, return it.

What if you purchase a brand new tv set and it immediately breaks down? Below EU regulation, if a product you purchase does not conform to the agreement you made with the vendor at the time of purchase, you’ll take it back and have it repaired or replaced. Alternatively, you’ll be able to raise for a price reduction, or a whole refund of your money. This is applicable for up to 2 years after you’re taking delivery of the product. And for the first six months when delivery, the burden of proof is on the vendor – not the consumer – to prove that the product sold conformed with the contract of sale.

This principle that the merchandise should “conform with the contract of sale” also protects you if what you get isn’t what you agreed to buy. For example, if what you agreed to buy was antique furniture and what you’re sent is reproduction, you’ll be able to send it back.
